BEING A TOURIST IN MY CITY

For as long as I’ve lived in Houston, I can’t say I’ve seen all the city has to offer. I guess when you grow up in a city from birth to present — you tend to think you know everything there is to know. The actuality is that those sentiments aren’t always true. This is why being a tourist in my city every few months is very important to me.

So my city.

Houston, Texas.

I live in the largest city in Texas and the Southern United States. There are 2.3 million people in the city, literally making me one needle in a haystack of humans.

Awesome right? Ehh. It can be, but other times it can get quite congesting.

However, being the largest city has its perks which include:

1) Many parts of the city to call home, 2) Random activities to get into (museums, aquariums, the Zoo, etc), 3) Different sides of town to explore and learn more about, & 4) A shit ton of malls/shops/boutiques to choose from.

& so forth…

I chose one of those perks yesterday and ran with it instantaneously becoming a tourist in my city.

So being a tourist in my city.

I had so much fun yesterday exploring the Museum District and Downtown Houston. I started out my day at the Bamboo Exhibit where I got to see the coolest bamboo jungle. Inside the jungle, everything was strung together perfectly (& securely) with rope knotted boy scout style. The actual inside itself… wild. There was literally bamboo everywhere. Tbh it felt like I was in an episode of the classic hit series ‘Lost’.

After exploring the lower portion, I went up to the higher portion.  This is where the bridge to get in the thick of it was located. Let me just say… You guys, I was scared shitless. The bridge was made solely out of bamboo that was being held together by rope.

Basically, there is the potential (in my mind) for it to fall apart.

However fall apart it did not lol, and I made it through unscathed.

I went on to explore Downtown and visit The Park People. If you haven’t heard of them — they are figures made completely out of legos. They are so human looking, my friend and I kept referring to them as our boyfriends the entire time. They were all perched in the courtyard of the Two Houston Center. Each of the colors (yellow, orange, red, blue, green) residing on their own benches settled in different positions.

It was soooo cool y’all.

It was as I made my way back to my car that I realized two things:

1) Being a tourist in my city rocks & 2) A man made bamboo jungle can be pretty safe after all LOL.

To being a tourist in your own city too,
