I woke up this morning excited. One, because it’s not Monday and two because something very near & dear to my heart is coming on TV today. It’s finally happening! The Hills is returning for a 10 year anniversary special (the 16 year old girl in me is totally losing her shit right now). I have waited for this day for what feels like FOREVER. The moment Lauren Conrad left the reality realm and went on to greener pastures was a sad day. The moment the show played it’s opening song for the last time (“feel the rain on your skin, no one else can feel it for you…”) shortly after, was an even sadder day.
I refused to forget, sometimes even watching reruns to refresh when my memory of certain episodes began slipping. #NEVERFORGET
After settling down and trying not to lose my shit after the news broke, I figured out 7 reasons why I’m so excited about this special and why you should be too.
1. WE MIGHT FINALLY FIND OUT THE TRUTH BEHIND THIS SERIES
There was so much heresay and rumors when the show was on and when it ended. Was the show fake? Did Lauren and Brody ever date? Did Justin Bobby really care about Audrina? Did Heidi ever have a real job? Was Spencer as evil as he seemed on the show? They all just kind of left us wondering and went on with their lives. Yeah, because I was going to forget the last episode with the fake backdrop being pulled up? NO.
2. OUR INNER TEEN CAN FINALLY GROW UP AFTER SETTLING THIS ONCE AND FOR ALL
Am I the only one who was blindsided by the ending of The Hills? I mean, there was an inkling that things would change after Lauren left, but I wasn’t ready to say goodbye to the show entirely. Not a fair call, MTV! Girls everywhere were pissed.
3. LAUREN CONRAD IS COMING BACK TO THE BIG SCREEN
I’ve missed Lauren on my TV so much! She was inspiring, hardworking, and extremely talented. When I was a teen she was someone I admired and held to the highest regard. She almost came back before with her own show about the business side of her life and I was BEYOND excited. MTV however, ruined that hope. Four words MTV. DON’T YOU RUIN THIS.
4. HEARING THE THEME SONG ASSOCIATED WITH THE SHOW ONCE AGAIN
Natasha Bedingfield. The woman I thanked everyday for coming out with the song that would shape The Hills for me in my teens and even now. I don’t hear that song without visualizing the show first. In case you’ve been living under a rock and don’t know the song, check it out here! Thank me later!
5. WATCH PARTY WITH GOOD GIRLFRIENDS
Who doesn’t love a good reason to gather all your friends together and hang out? This show was the creme de la creme of my teen years and to see it make its way back… EVERYTHING. Having friends that are just excited makes the experience even more pleasurable. Call a catering company now and text all your girlfriends, there’s still time.
6. THE GANG IS BACK, SCOOBY!
Seeing everyone in the new stages of their lives will be so crazy to watch. The gang is getting back together and may be opening up about what’s going on in their lives these days: Audrina had a baby, Brody is engaged, Lauren is married & a thriving fashion mogul, Whitney is married and a fashion mogul in her own right, Heidi and Spencer are well… Heidi and Spencer.
7. THE START OF SOMETHING NEW…
After everything is said and done, one can only hope that the success of this reunion special will bring more from the cast members soon! I don’t think I can take seeing everyone on TV tonight and then be forced to go back to a meek life without them for another 20 years! Totally not okay.
