THE “I DESERVE” MANTRA YOU NEVER KNEW YOU NEEDED

Do you believe in daily mantras? A statement or phrase you say to yourself to further affirm a particular point you’d like to resonate?

It’s something that’s meant to stick with you.

To hold you,

To comfort you,

To bring you solace,

To bring you peace,

To provide you hope.

If you were a fan of Being Mary Jane which aired on BET a little bit ago, you’re very familiar with mantras.

You’re familiar with how they are supposed to help shape you.

You’re also aware of how transformative they can be. I mean c’mon — some of our favorite celebrities/mentors speak highly of mantras and having ones that are specifically tailored to you. To your experiences.

As a viewer we all watched as over time, the daily mantra Mary Jane said to herself led to a change in thought and ultimately who she was as a person. It goes without saying that the change we witnessed was for the best.

In any case, the show further affirmed (though fictional in it’s depiction) — the power of speaking into yourself and how much doing so is needed.

As someone who has always been big on introspection and discovery of self — mantras are near and dear to my heart.

& because I love y’all so much, I want it to be for you as well.

So without further ado (say this to yourself, take it as you will & apply as appropriate), here is the I DESERVE mantra I wrote that you never knew you needed —

I deserve peace. To be in spaces that provide me safety, joy, and comfort. The spaces that when they swallow me up I feel as though I’m on a bed of clouds. That I find so much peace I’m high on the beauty of life and everything it offers. The ease of that gives me chills. Yes I deserve peace. I deserve to love and be loved too. In a way that makes me question what I thought love was before the love that changed my life showed up. The one that is my extraordinary out of this world, love. The love that feels like home, that feels like refuge, that feels whole. To be loved the way I love; unconditionally and without fail. I definitely deserve joy. I deserve to laugh till my stomach hurts and though there may be days I cry — I want to wade in sadness for a short short while and then laugh right after. Oh I deserve joy. I’ve been through darkness and through the darkness I found light so bright it could blind the best visually. Yes, it goes without saying that I deserve joy. I deserve grace as well. For the days I don’t show up as my best self. The days where everything about me feels tough, hard, unlovable. I deserve grace in those days as I forge through the cloudiness to come back home to myself. For the days when I forget the magnificence that is this vessel, my being. Lord give me grace to recall when I forget that my experiences and how I was made was your intention. It was as you, Christ saw fit. Grant me grace when I forget that my faith should be much stronger than my fears. I deserve grace Lord. Please, give me grace. I deserve to reap the benefits of the work I’ve put into living this life as best as I can. I deserve it all. Hell yeah, I deserve all good things.

As I leave you all, I hope this mantra finds you well and you recite it, applying it as is appropriate to your life daily.
