TEXT MESSAGES MEN ABSOLUTELY HATE RECEIVING

text messages

Have you ever felt like text messages and texting someone you’re interested in is a lot like playing chess with Bobby Fisher (American chess grandmaster)? The funny thing about texting is that men always get the bad rep. They’re always considered the horrible texters. I can’t tell you how many times my girlfriends and I have roasted a guy for his lack of texting abilities. Like seriously, why would he even text that? Us ladies are so damn quick to shit talk guys when it comes to texting, but what about us? Couldn’t the same be said about us women? The answer is yes, it absolutely could. So keep reading as I explore the opinions I received from a multitude of guys I polled as I share text messages men absolutely hate receiving.

#1 “Can we talk?”  OR “We need to talk.”

Ladies, I think it’s pretty understandable why men would hate receiving either one of these text messages. It’s unnecessarily ominous and leaves too much to the imagination. Can we talk could mean anything. Anything ranging from can we talk because I’m pregnant or we need to talk because I’ve been unhappy. Let’s be real. Rarely does receiving either text mean good things for your relationship and where it’s headed. It also tends to build “too much tension” according to one of the guys I polled and I couldn’t agree more. I hate when anyone, let alone someone I’m involved with texts me that we need to talk. If you had no intention of spilling right at that moment, don’t even bring it up until you can. It’s uncalled for.

#2 “I’m late.”

Lol this goes without saying. I can only imagine how heart stopping receiving a text like this for a man is. Your whole world for that immediate moment has got to flash before your eyes guys. Why women would ever feel the need to text their men this is beyond me. You didn’t think a call would suffice LOL?

#3 “Am I annoying you?”

When I asked one of the guys why he hates receiving this sort of text message one thing came to his mind almost immediately: insecurity. He spoke on the fact that a girl asking him this means that she “walks on egg shells.” She’s not sure of herself and needing a girl “who is bold and confident” is more up his ally. I actually didn’t know girls asked such a question through text. Ladies, if you fall into the category of women doing this… Do better for yourself, please.

#4 “What are we?”

Ahh. The age old define the relationship text that hits all men at some point or another. When I asked some of the guys about this, the general consensus was consistent. They felt like asking was a mute point if they had no intention of defining the relationship or had every intention of doing so when they were good and ready. You can’t rush a man. If they want to do something they will and it won’t be because you pressured them to do so through a text message. Trust me.

#5 “What’s your body count?” OR “How many girls have you slept with?”

Y’all this one made me giggle. Do women really text guys asking this sort of thing or is it just the type of girls some of these guys talk to. One guy aired his frustration out about receiving a text like this because “deep down [girls] don’t want to know” the answer to such a question. I can say for fact that I don’t want to know that. Unless it has some relevance to the current status of our situation, I don’t think knowing that sort of information is all that useful. *shrugs

#6 “When are you taking me out?”

I could have easily guessed that this would end up making its way to this list. Again, if a man wants to do something he will and it will not because you pressured him to do so through text. All the men I polled stood firm in their belief about this one.

#7 “You’re making me cry.”

Most of the guys said they hated receiving this sort of text because it made them feel awkward. To be honest, I’m right there with them on this one. I mean how do you really respond to a text like that. You could start off by saying sorry I guess, but then what. I’m not sure texting someone that they made you cry has as much of an effect on them as them witnessing it first hand.

#8 “K.”, “Lol.”, “Yeah.”, etc.

This is just freaking disrespectful and viewed the same way across the board, man or woman. I’m not sure where anyone would possibly think the conversation was going after a one letter or one word response. It’s just irritating and draws a line in the sand you can’t come back from. It also shows that you lack the ability to carry conversation within an atmosphere as simple as texting.

Whew.

Am I the only one in need of a handbook on texting after all of this LOL.

In all seriousness.

Whether you’ve been the woman to send these sort of text messages or not, I hope today’s post serves as a reminder that our womanhood doesn’t make us better communicators than our men. Sometimes viewing things from the male perspective can teach us a thing or three and open our eyes to what isn’t immediately clear.

I know my eyes are certainly open.
