WCW: YARA SHAHIDI

Yara Shahidi

On Sunday I woke up to the news that HRH Megan Markle, Duchess of Sussex had been invited to be the guest editor for the September Issue of British Vogue. In this issue, it was her desire to highlight the power of the collective. As women from all walks of life were recognized for their efforts to initiate as representatives of “Forces for Change” in their everyday lives. So when I went through the list of 15 and began to familiarize myself with those I didn’t know — I was pleased, but not shocked to see that Yara Shahidi had made the list. I mean she’s been my WCW for ages, it feels like. So much so that, I might have been more than a little salty if she hadn’t made the list. Continue Reading

BOUNDARIES YOUR MAN’S EX WOMAN SHOULD RESPECT

white after labor day

I can’t believe I have to write a post about this, about boundaries. But y’all we are in an era where the exes are just not getting it and because of that the demise of relationships are happening everywhere. I can’t even begin to explain to you all how many times I have seen an ex step out of her lane. Thinking that it’s appropriate to do certain things or behave a certain way when communicating with her former man, who is now your (my) man. If it’s not a text message saying “wyd” past 7pm, it’s a “Good morning” text before the sun rises. Neither of them being okay to send to a man who is with someone else. Don’t they get it? Their former man is taken. He is with someone else now and y’all are happy. Thriving in a way that doesn’t welcome distraction, disrespect, or other people. Exes included.

So without further ado, lets jump straight into things shall we? Today’s post is for the boundaries your man’s ex woman should respect. Hell needs to respect if we’re getting literal.  Continue Reading

ONCE A CHEATER, ALWAYS A CHEATER

cheater

Now I write this knowing full well there will be three types of people reading this. So I figured I’d just get a few disclaimers out of the way now. The first? The person who agrees with me wholeheartedly and can’t wait to read more about why cheaters gone always cheat (southern drawl for more emphasis). Because you sis, have never been confused on the matter. The second? The person who happens to be with a cheater reformed and will read today’s post with fear in their heart (or maybe even anger?). Worried that what I have to say may hold some weight. Or feel accusatory in some way. The third? Now if you fall in the third category, you’re in the clear. You’ve never been cheated on and are reading today’s post for the sake of insight only.  Continue Reading

SUPPORT WORKS BOTH WAYS

support works both ways

It’s disheartening to realize that there are a number of times when strangers will readily support you before your own friends. Or own family from time to time. However, it’s interesting that the same isn’t supposed to ring true on their end. At their moment of need they expect you to jump through hoops to show support. They want you to pull out all the stops to lend a hand. Whether it’s to promote their new business, wear their hair line, or support the people they love — they want your support readily.

So it begs the question: Why can’t they do the same for you? Why is it that they don’t recognize that support works both ways?  Continue Reading

WHY IT’S SO HARD FOR MOST WOMEN TO MAKE THE FIRST MOVE

first move

As much as the times call for women empowerment and taking charge, there is a significant deficit when it comes to applying such sentiments to dating and women making the first move. Whether, it’s the fear of rejection. Or it’s the traditional mindset you were raised with. Most women prefer NOT to make the first move. In today’s post, I’m sharing my thoughts on why it’s so hard for most women to make the first move, advice on putting yourself out there and just doing it + my personal experiences.

SO, keep reading for more. Continue Reading
