THE MAN I KNEW I WANTED TO LOVE

Man I knew I Wanted to Love

I  once met a man I knew I wanted to love.

He was charismatic, but kind,

Hard, but damn fine

He knew his way in the kitchen to that I could attest,

making it hard for me to compare his capabilities to the rest.

He was the kind of man who warmed me up when I was cold,

simple things that gave way to getting to the depths of my soul.

So it stands to reason that this man was someone I’d always knew I wanted to know.

Because as a child, I had pictured,

A man that was charismatic and just as kind,

who brought more to the table than just a few smooth lines.

He’d be a listener who’d catch every word I’d say,

letting me run my  mouth to no end, but right there he would stay.

Not to be confused, I would be his support system just as much as he’d be mine.

With an unshakeable foundation,

prepared to stand the test of time.

That’s what I’d always wanted for myself,

this I could never deny.

And to think I met him, then later questioned why.

Here’s the thing about meeting the man I knew I wanted to love.

I never said finding then keeping him,

wouldn’t be a challenge all on its own.

FORGIVE & NEVER FORGET

forgive never forget

I know that they say forgiveness is necessary to cleanse the soul,

But I don’t think they considered that to forgive AND forget is a whole other battles of its own.

To forget would mean letting go of the important lesson you needed to learn,

it’s what stops us from making the same mistake twice,

because the last lesson actually burned.

In the way that a chubby finger touches a hot stove when kept there for much too long,

from then on you remember the importance of right vs. wrong.

See right there? That’s the beauty in never forgetting hard times you experience,

I call it the kick in the ass everyone needs to avoid yet another oversight… period.

Basically, what I’m trying to say is that one should never forget although forgiveness is key,

it’s what truly makes this world go round and if you haven’t figured that out yet,

I pray to God, someday you might truly see.

“Forgive, and never forget”, it’s what I’ll say till I’m old and possibly gray,

I pray I remember these sentiments if ever mind starts to slip away.

CLOSING THE CHAPTER

closing the chapter

I’m closing the chapter on this“, is what many say when things have come to an end,

filled with rage and regret till they’re opening a new section again.

But why is it that what caused the chapter to end,

is never really discussed.

It’s my belief that in order to stop the continuous cycle,

we should probably hit a few points first.

For starters, the key is recognizing,

you may be the reason the story always runs short.

If we’re being frank — I don’t think you ever quite learned,

to let others work through who you are at your worst.

It’s been excuse after excuse,

to rationalize why no one ever gets it.

But if we’re being honest here,

it’s you who never lets them.

You’re guarded in the worst way,

and try as you might it has a way of peaking through.

I’m not sure why others ever let you believe,

it was always them and never you.

It was never that you were hard to love

although it’s the story you always told.

For once,

take responsibility for why this very last chapter closed.

It takes self recognition to realize,

your heart is the one that needs working on.

Don’t get me wrong — it is sure to sting,

when you pull the bandaid back of old wounds forcing yourself to face it all.

However this time when you work through it,

and decide you’re closing this last chapter for good.

I believe you’ll be thankful that this time,

this chapter will finally close as it should.

To fresh starts and closing the chapter the right way,
