Women learn the most about themselves between the ages of 16 – 25, sometimes before, during, and at times after marriage. At least I’d like to think so. It’s a vital time that shapes the friend you’ll be, the type of mother to kids you’ll rear, and the wife you’ll be to your soulmate. Naturally there are things that are beneficial to learn before entering into a sacred union, such as marriage. Of course, that can’t always be the case and in some instances we have to learn through marriage. However, for those of you babes who haven’t embarked on that next phase of life — this post is for you. Meant to serve as a reminder of all you should be and do for yourself before walking down the aisle with your beloved. Practicing the art of not giving a fuck ($!%&) is actually harder than most people think. It takes a certain amount of effort and resilience to go against caring about the thoughts or opinions of others.
I voted for the first time in 2016 during the presidential election that got Donald Trump sworn into office. I’m ashamed to admit that because I was 21 at the time. For one, I’m ashamed that I hadn’t taken an active part in the fight for change and allowing my voice to be heard prior to that election — being that I was given the opportunity to do so since turning 18.
It’s one thing to accomplish falling in love with yourself, but the real feat? The part that’s never really discussed is how to stay in love with yourself, once you fall. I thought about myself when I wrote today’s post, so this one is especially near and dear to me y’all. No, scratch that.
