SUNDAY CHAT: MIND MAINTENANCE

Hi there babes! SO. I want to start off by apologizing for not having a new entry in this series last week. For starters, school (seems to be a reoccurring theme) got super hectic. I mean like ‘can’t get up for air because I’m drowning in school assignments and reading requirements‘ hectic. Naturally, with this occurring I wasn’t able to shoot new content and pre-write posts for the coming week. However, I’m back today with a new entry, sans drowning — Sunday Chat: Mind Maintenance.

So a bit of backstory on today’s Sunday Chat.

As many of you babes know, I’m in nursing school. If you’re not familiar with the way that works I’ll clue you in. Each semester you’re focused on new content that you’re required to master before moving on to the next semester’s core subjects.

In my case,  I’m currently attempting to master psychiatric nursing and am in my 4th semester of nursing school. This summer semester has proven pretty interesting, but different.

For one,

I’m learning key factors into how those who have no familial history of psychiatric disorders can end up with one or more. I found that there was a common factor relative to it all — the ability of an individual or rather lack thereof to maintain one’s mind in the face of trauma, stress, and life’s hassles overall.

& two,

According to loads of research (and my textbook), we are all one bad traumatic event (without the appropriate coping mechanisms) away from a psych episode potentially occurring.

Wild right? I sure thought so.

With this new knowledge, I thought I’d chat about the importance of mind maintenance and 3 easy steps to aid in doing so. After all, what’s knowledge if you’re not sharing what you know with the next person you know.

SO keep reading for today’s Sunday Chat: Mind Maintenance and 3 steps to keep the peace within your mind.

I don’t think many truly understand the importance of keeping the mind healthy.

I know I sure didn’t.

However, doing so isn’t just about keeping up with the latest news or challenging ourselves with a crossword puzzle in the Sunday paper each week.

Mind maintenance is also about opening up and expressing what troubles us within in the face of tragedy, so that it doesn’t drown us in moments to come.  Believe it or not, tragic events as far deep as we may bury them, don’t stay buried for long. They can and will rear their ugly heads if given the opportunity to do so. This also applies to daily stressors we may view as irrelevant.

After all, let’s face it babes — We live in a world where unfortunate things happen everyday challenging the ability of our minds to remain stable.

With that being said, here are 3 easy steps to keep the peace within your mind.

  1. Express yourself – whatever that may look like. Expression can be through writing, yoga, talking, singing, and even yelling. Yes yelling. Anything that helps you express yourself and not let the undesirable thoughts cloud your mind is crucial to your well-being.
  2. Stay active – exercise in any capacity is a great way to keep the mind flowing and keep troubling thoughts at bay. Personally, I hate working out, but when I do — I feel unstoppable afterwards.
  3. Seek help — the moment you need help, seek help. This is probably the most important piece of advice I can offer up. There’s nothing more beneficial than reaching out to others that can help the moment you feel like you’re incapable of going at it alone.

Stay stable babes in mind, body, and spirit.
