cheers to 2019

SCREAMING HAPPY NEW YEAR BABES + clinking my glass and softly saying, “Cheers to 2019.

You guuuuuys. It’s officially the new year! Can y’all believe it? Honestly I can’t. It usually takes me a little bit to come to terms with the fact that it’s officially a new year. However, I’m excited as ever to get a fresh start. There is something so beautiful about the new year. Mainly because it spans farther than it just being a new month. Baby it’s a new freaking YEAR. We all get a chance to do things differently and make necessary changes that could affect our lives in the greatest of ways.

WANT BETTER, GO GET BETTER

Want Better, Go Get Better

Someone once told her,

“If you want better, go get better.”

She didn’t always understand what that meant because getting better is subjective.

What if getting better meant leaving one bad man, for a lesser bad man to one.

& to another,

What if getting better meant leaving poverty with sane mind, to enter the glitz and glam of insanity.

THE MAN I KNEW I WANTED TO LOVE

Man I knew I Wanted to Love

I  once met a man I knew I wanted to love.

He was charismatic, but kind,

Hard, but damn fine

He knew his way in the kitchen to that I could attest,

making it hard for me to compare his capabilities to the rest.

He was the kind of man who warmed me up when I was cold,

simple things that gave way to getting to the depths of my soul.

So it stands to reason that this man was someone I’d always knew I wanted to know.

Because as a child, I had pictured,

A man that was charismatic and just as kind,

who brought more to the table than just a few smooth lines.

He’d be a listener who’d catch every word I’d say,

letting me run my  mouth to no end, but right there he would stay.

Not to be confused, I would be his support system just as much as he’d be mine.

With an unshakeable foundation,

prepared to stand the test of time.

That’s what I’d always wanted for myself,

this I could never deny.

And to think I met him, then later questioned why.

Here’s the thing about meeting the man I knew I wanted to love.

I never said finding then keeping him,

wouldn’t be a challenge all on its own.
