TURNIN’ NOTHIN’ INTO SOMETHIN’

“Ugh. I don’t have anything to weaaaaaar.” It’s the sentence heard ’round the world on a weekly if not daily basis. It’s us girls’ version of a mid life crisis and it sucks. The crazy thing about that mid life crisis is that there isn’t really one because our closets (to the human eye at least) are completely stuffed with clothing. From jackets, to sweaters, crop tops, and pants — our choices are endless, so why do we still feel like we have nothing to wear?

We’re never completely satisfied, it’s as simple as that.

Girls, (myself included) always want more crop tops, more denim, more heels, more purses… shall I continue? There’s never enough of anything in our lives, so guys if you’re looking to buy your girl a beautiful engraved bracelet for V-Day, but feel like she has enough of those *hint she’ll never have enough, so place your orders now

Anyway.

When we look in our closets a lot of the time all we see is what we’ve already worn, and would rather snag a new combo for date night, girls night out, or a social event. We get so overwhelmed by the idea that we have nothing to wear, that the possibility to turn nothing into something eludes us.

I had those exact thoughts a few weeks ago, until I figured out a great method on ‘turnin’ nothin’ into somethin’. For future bfs, I’m not promising I’ll never utter those infamous words, but I can guarantee I’ll say it a lot less.

Start by assuring yourself that you have something to wear because you do. If you have two pairs of pants, three top options, a cool coat, and two pairs of heels you’re already ahead because those are called OPTIONS HONEY.

Begin the process of looking for an outfit 4-5 hours before you have to be out the door. There’s nothing like choosing an outfit at the last minute to make you feel like you’re crunched for options — quickly turning your closet stuffed with clothes, to a vacant lot with one car parked in the corner.

Grab something funky and something basic and throw it together. New combos of clothing you have worn independent of each other can make for the perfect new look. The funky piece of the outfit will complement the more docile basic piece, adding some definition to the look as a whole.

Finish the new combo off with heels or a great chunky shoe because they make everything better. Heels make an outfit look like shit, said no one ever. Heels or a great chunky shoe have the tendency to make an outfit look more thoughtfully chosen than flat sandals or slip ons.

So this look.

It came together because I had nothing to wear a few weeks ago for a fancy event. I just wasn’t feeling the idea of wearing something I had already featured on the blog or snapped away on social media. I wanted something fresh, edgy, and different.

Using the tools I mentioned earlier, I was able to turn nothing into something.

I chose these pants because they were funky and different, and paired them with something more basic like this blazer I snagged thrifting a while back.

To add some definition to the look, I added my two set choker combo from Forever 21 that I have been looooving with every outfit as of late. Of course, I had to throw on some heels to make it all look thoughtfully chosen (I picked this outfit out in 10-15mins so LOL).

So what do you babes think?

I hope my tips were helpful, so you have less mid life crisis (LOL) and more ‘I have so many options” days ahead of you.

I’m off to bed because I have a test in the morning. Send me positive vibes & wish me luck!
