These days owning a professional camera seems a lot more common than it was a few years ago. I’m talking over the holiday I was at Best Buy doing some last minute Christmas shopping. I spotted a mom and her daughter who looked to be no older than 13 doing a little shopping of their own. The mom was inquiring with a sales associate on what camera was best for her “little girl.”
Like whooooa.
The closest thing I got at that age to a professional camera? The disposable ones from Walmart. & even getting that took groveling because I was “too young” to be worried about owning one. So it would be safe for y’all to assume, I definitely didn’t have it going on at 13.
But it’s today’s world, right? The commonality of owning a camera today no matter the age continues to rise.
Whether to record daily activities, set up self timer to take the best selfie, or just snapping the world around us — everyone is getting more clued in when it comes to the desire for owning a camera. That’s why I thought it fitting, to share my insight on how to make the most of your professional camera.
Now this is not to say that if you don’t have one, you should go out and buy one. Not at all. With the decrease in time between one iPhone update and the next, our phones are turning into mini professional cameras themselves! Nevertheless, today’s chat is for the babe who owns a camera already, desiring tips to make the most of it.
#1 LEARN EVERYTHING THERE IS TO KNOW
It’s frankly impossible to become proficient in something you’ve never taken the time out to really understand. Or learn for that matter. Play with your camera whenever you get a chance. Watch videos and join forums to gain better insight on the perks of owning your particular digital device. This includes reading the manual as well! If you don’t, you’ll never make the most of it. Ever.
#2 GET A TRIPOD
This is a necessity for every camera owner. Not owning one can limit you from shooting things that require distance and a bit of space. You don’t want to make a habit of “I can’ts” all because you need someone there to snap a shot for you. Weirdly enough, I didn’t realize this until I was a year into being a camera owner.
#3 UNDERSTAND LIGHTING
Taking beautiful pictures requires one to have a significant understand of lighting. After all, certain times of the day determine what kind of image you might get back on your camera. Through knowing this you’ll be able to properly adjust your camera, so that you adapt to the variating circumstances. For example, the early afternoon lighting may be too harsh. Being aware of that will require that you lower the exposure enough in order to produce a better looking photo. You feel me?
#4 KEEP YOUR CAMERA WITHIN REACH
This is really so you get in the habit of using it and better learning what it can offer. There’s nothing more challenging than trying to utilize an item that is never seen. Or isn’t even easily accessible. You’d be surprised by how the frequency of use can up your quality photo taking abilities significantly.
#5 STAY HUNGRY
Okay, before your mind starts drifting off to the burger you’ve been craving since last week (if you haven’t already). I don’t mean hungry for food. I mean hungry as in, remain starved for information so to speak. Always desire more knowledge when it comes to your camera. Never stop attempting to learn more. It’s that “hunger” that will propel you towards making the absolute most of your professional camera. When things get challenging and you can’t figure out how to make a particular setting work in your favor, don’t give up. Keep seeking more. After all, no individual with desire to learn and become knowledgeable ever stayed unknowing for long.
To making the most of things, especially your camera,
Thelms
