It’s been 7 years since I applied false lashes for the first time and just thinking about that is W I L D. To be honest saying that aloud as I typed this made me feel a ways. For one, 7 years is a long time and makes me feel kind of old. Two, I’m not sure how I functioned before strips came into my life. Now the latter may be a bit dramatic. BUT, that’s how good eyelash strips are. I’d like to think others agree because I’m ALWAYS getting compliments on mine when I wear them. Compliments ranging from how precise they look (as if I got lash extensions), how well I put them on, and so forth.
SO, keep reading as I put y’all on game 😉 and share my application tips, where I get my strips from, and the secret to my poppin’ false lashes.
As I stated earlier, I started wearing eyelash strips 7 years ago, in the 11th grade to be exact. A friend of mine had always worn them and one day I got so curious that I went and purchased my very first pair. Snagging them from the local CVS was no easy feat, but allowance and legs made all the difference.
Back then, I had no idea why someone would want to wear fake eyelashes. However, after several successful application attempts two things became very clear to me:
1) Lash strips had a way of lifting your overall appearance in the very best way & 2) I was about to start saving a lot of money because I was severing ties with mascara.
APPLICATION TIPS
- DUO glue is your friend y’all!!! It’s the only brand of eyelash glue that I use. I know some girls use hair glue which, can I just say is absolutely insane. I prefer not to rip out all my lashes *shrugs. Duo glue dries as dark as eyeliner and gets tacky (sticky) very easily. The removal process? Effortless with a capital E.
- Always coat the entire lash line with your glue of choice and dabble what’s left on the application tip to your lash line. Naturally, you should be careful that you don’t get the glue in your eyes. This makes the application process simple and ensures that your lashes will stay put for hours. I learned this particular tip a few years ago and it has made ALL the difference.
- Keep in mind that whenever you’re putting your lashes on, apply them as close to your natural lashes as possible. Nothing grinds my gears more than seeing the separation between my real lashes and the falsies.
PURCHASING TIPS
- Although, it’s all the rave right now I personally don’t think it’s necessary to spend $20+ on false lashes. Honestly that amount could buy you four pairs of a single pair of $20+ lashes.
- YOUR LOCAL GROCERY STORE IS YOUR FRIEND. I’m talking Walmart, HEB, Trader Joes, whatever is considered a neighborhood grocery store where you are is your friend. I don’t think I’ve ever spent more than $7 on eyelash strips and it has a lot to do with recognizing where my friends are (pun intended). Personally, I purchase mine from either Walmart or the beauty supply store (rare though). I almost always go with the Ardell brand or honestly whatever looks good to me.
- NEVER choose the lash that’s extremely dramatic. 9/10 times it will be a waste of a purchase because you will more than likely end up hating them. Start off as natural as possible and build from there.
- Stay away from lashes that have a plastic feel to them. As in, the lash line is predominantly plastic in nature and/or the lash itself. An example of lashes that give me that vibe are KISS lashes. I know some people like that brand, but in my experience — they’re awfully irritating. I’d like to think it has a lot to do with the overly plastic part the lash line is made of.
SECRET TO MY POPPIN’ LASHES
Now to the real tea. The secret to my luscious lashes? I double and sometimes triple stack my lashes manually. That’s it! I usually take a natural style and pair them with strips on the more dramatic side to achieve the look I’m going for. AND if you’re like me, once I create the perfect pair I reuse the hell out of them. Now I know some might say, “Omg germs…” and blah blah. However, in the seven years that I’ve been wearing false strips I haven’t ever dealt with an eye infection ever.
Additionally, some may pose the “If you love lashes so much and wear them so religiously — Why don’t you just get eyelash extensions?” question.
I’ve actually tried eyelash extensions before and to be honest they were cute initially, BUT. The feeling didn’t last for long. I’d like to think I’d grown so accustomed to strips and being able to take them off, that not being able to was challenging for me. I constantly felt like putting in the effort to maintain them would prove expensive and tiring. SO lash strips it’ll be.
As always, I hope this post was detailed and informative. Coment below if you have any additional questions for me or want to chat about something I didn’t cover in today’s post.
In the meantime, I’ll be catching up on the latest episode of Southern Charm: New Orleans and writing Wednesday’s blog post.
Laters babes,
