I should choose myself sometimes.
I don’t mean in the way you choose girls night over staying in. Or ramen over takeout. I mean like really choosing yourself in a way that makes a significant impact in your life. Putting your needs above everybody else’s.
Making sure you’re okay, before you worry about all the other people around you.
Yeah, I should definitely choose myself sometimes.
Because honestly, I’m so tired of choosing everyone else. Being pulled on from so many different directions and weighed down by the weight of the world, while the same weight of the world drowns me from within.
Fuck society and its rules that say,
“Being selfish is the worst quality to have” because is it really?
Is it really so bad to worry about yourself a little bit more than you worry about the next person?
Maybe being selfish every now again looks a lot like choosing yourself. I reckon it may contribute to the best soul saving money can buy. Or therapy can afford.
So from today on, I’m choosing my damn self more than ever before.
So if I don’t pick up the phone immediately when you call understand that. When I’m no longer available every night or during the wee hours of the morning, understand that. When I no longer choose to meet your needs above meeting my own, I need you to understand what doing so is truly about.
I’m done choosing everyone, but myself.
I figure it might be the reason that your soul doesn’t need saving as often as mine does.
