As my community faces yet another murder at the hands of the police or those that don’t see us as equal — the Black Lives Matter movement continues to be something chanted around the world.
It is something that my people take pride in because for us — “Black Lives Matter” is more than just a hashtag.
It’s more than just something we stand behind with the intention of creating superiority against all other races. That’s not it in the least bit. In fact that is the last thing we’re concerned about.
Black lives matter because it is the people who look like my brothers, who are getting murdered everyday.
Black lives matter because people that look like my Mom or my Dad could be discriminated against, simply for the color of their skin.
The black life matters because we refuse to be your negro. An afterthought, a thug, a baby mama, baby daddy, or even “those people over there.”
Baby, black lives matter because the culture that many of you appropriate is the same culture that comes from the people so many in this world hate — a culture that needs to thrive for decades to come.
So excuse us if we’re a bit passionate about the Black Lives Matter movement and could careless about the mantra “All Lives Matter.”
This then brings me to my next point.
So play close attention because I want everyone to hear this and hear it well.
No one’s saying that you shouldn’t value the life of all races, but here’s the thing.
All races don’t have to worry about their brothers possibly not making it home safely. Or their father being murdered in front of their mom and themselves. I can promise you that all races don’t have to worry about being judged simply for the color of their skin. Or assumed that they are the criminal when they are in fact the one in danger at the hands of another. I can even go as far to bet that many understanding the circumstance that the black woman or man face everyday wouldn’t think of trading places. You understand what’s happening in the world and though you may not be affected in some way you are beginning or have since understood the feat associated with being black… so yeah you wouldn’t trade.
I mean why would you when my people are being hunted, murdered, slaughtered every single fucking day.
Can you then find it in your heart to understand why we don’t give a rat’s ass that All Lives Matter too.
WE ARE THE ONES BLEEDING. We’re the ones who were lynched hundreds of years ago. We are the ones still being treated as if we’re inferior to others, as if we’ll never be enough. We’re the ones that get questioned for being in a neighborhood we LIVE IN because apparently we look like we don’t belong. We’re the ones who are assumed to be “ghetto” simply because of the way our name is spelled or pronounced.
Black men, women, children… it is us.
This in no way is to demean other minorities and the racism that they face or say that everyone who is Caucasian was raised to have hate their heart for my people, but again I say…
RIGHT NOW IS FOR US, the people getting murdered at the hands of those wicked in spirit and hateful in heart. Those that were raised to hate the brown/black skin that we were raised to nurture (take care of) & love so much.
So prioritize us the way you prioritize your dogs and animal cruelty.
Prioritize us the way you do your guns and your rights.
Hell the way you prioritize reporting someone playing loud music on a Monday night to the neighborhood watch in mere minutes.
Prioritize Black Lives Matter, because together… together we can.
