The month of January leading into February was a lot for me. I felt like I had so much going on and I could barely catch my breath. From catching flights to different countries, to dealing with a tough load at work — this past month hasn’t been the smoothest of sails.
Don’t get me wrong though, I’m grateful. Despite the lack of smoothness, I had an amazing time in Cancun and Canada respectively, and learned so much at work because of those tough experiences.
However, I think it’s so important to listen to your body and care for it accordingly. That’s why as soon as I came back from traveling it was necessary that prioritizing self care came first. I needed a chance to recoup and renew, ya know?
I needed a chance to get back in the groove of things because my body was begging for reprieve. Then again aren’t all our bodies begging for such from time to time?
Could you imagine being on the go 24/7 and not taking the necessary time to prioritize you? It would be wildly detrimental to your mental health that’s for sure.
So in today’s post, I’m breaking down the benefits of prioritizing self care. + Why we should all take out the time to put ourselves first , above all else a time or too.
Benefit #1: WHEN YOU FEEL GOOD, YOU GIVE GOOD
I think it goes without saying that there’s nothing greater than being around someone who feels good. Whether they took out the time to get their hair cut or spent time getting a facial the day before — there is a pep in their step that can’t be matched. & dammit if that step doesn’t translate to whoever’s around them. They feel good, so consciously or unconsciously they give good.
Benefit #2: YOU TEND NOT TO SWEAT THE SMALL STUFF
Self care doesn’t always mean going to the spa and letting someone rub you down 10 ways to Sunday. Though it’s included, it’s not the end all be all of self care. Self care is whatever allows you to prioritize yourself and feel good in the process. Which may or may not look like meditation or something as unconventional as shopping. By indulging in your personal self care activity, you can’t help but let the small stuff pass you by. After all, you’re still on a high from shopping or in a state of zen after a much needed meditation session.
Benefit #3: YOU CENTER YOURSELF IN A WAY THAT ANYTHING ELSE NEVER COULD
There is so much beauty in finding peace within yourself when chaos seems to surround you. Self care is a great way to guarantee inner peace that will comfort you on difficult days and be your refuge during trying nights. It’s the best way to center yourself.
I personally made a point of prioritizing my self care by visiting Milk and Honey Spa. I loved treating myself to services that did nothing but renew my body and spirit. When I tell you guys, it felt amazing choosing things that were solely going to benefit me… le’sigh.
From that experience alone, I made a standing promise to myself to recognize and implement the benefits of prioritizing self care.
I sure hope this post helps you to do the same babes.
Self care it up and don’t forget that doing so gives good to you, making it that much easier to give good to others,
