Happy Monday you guys! You’re either one of two people on this Monday morning. The person fired up to get to the business and get things done. Or you’re the person still daydreaming about the weekend. Where are you at this morning? If you’re wondering what category I fall in, I’m definitely the latter. I am 100% dreaming about the weekend… still. After trying out Loch Bar, a restaurant in the River Oaks area for the first time and enjoying myself to no end just yesterday… can you really blame me?
The food, the service, the ambiance — beyond. I mean just beyond amazing. Naturally, when I experience “beyond” moments I want you babes to experience them as well if at all possible.
So keep reading as I break down my first time experience at Loch Bar and why I’m reminiscing so damn hard. Hopefully making it clear by the end of today’s post that your presence is needed and most definitely required at this seafood eatery.
THE AMBIANCE
The moment my good girlfriend and I stepped foot into Loch Bar, we felt like we had been transported to a whole different city. Hell state even. Toto we’re not in Houston anymore. The layout was so clean and made us feel like we were eating out somewhere in California. I particularly couldn’t help but notice the maroon quilted seating options and the beautiful marble tables. OMG Y’ALL, it took everything in me not to squeal like a lunatic. Y’all know I die for bomb ass interior design. Not to mention the layout of the restaurant itself. Everything was so open and welcoming. I also loved the combination of colors that went as dark as black, to then as bright as white, to a necessary pop of gold & maroon. A minimalist’s dream come true. Too often you find establishments like this one filled with really dark colors that don’t attract good light, but past restaurants be damn. Loch Bar was having none of that.
THE SERVICE
S/o my main man Diego because he killed it on the customer service front. He was our waiter for the afternoon and when I tell y’all he was on it. Whew. He was on it. It was clear that he knew his stuff when it came to the menu, making a newbie like myself’s decision so much easier. It also didn’t hurt that he kept the sparking water flowing, okay. He was patient, kind, and very engaging — all of the things you honestly hope for in a waiter. Because who wants someone stale, impatient, and rude attending to their dietary needs?! However, I get the feeling that the staff at Loch Bar are all similar to Diego on all fronts mentioned. I couldn’t look up without one of the waiters smiling at me or keeping an out if we needed anything at all. I mean does it get any better than that?
THE FOOD
Now I know this is what you all came here for, so I did right by saving the best for last. I’m not sure where to begin if I’m being honest, but I want you all to know my mouth is watering just thinking about it. The food was impeccable, maybe. That seems like a great place if any to start. Yep. The food was pretty freaking fantastic. I ordered the:
PO BOY, with shrimp, corn meal breading, lettuce, tomato, housemade tartar sauce, sriracha aioli & shells and cheese as a side
while Jules ordered the:
Cream Of Crab, jumbo lump crab meat, leeks, cream, sherry & asparagus as a side
Let me just say, we were NOT disappointed. The shrimp was perfectly seasoned on my Po Boy and the items used to complete the sandwich were a perfect pairing to the shrimp. I assumed I would need a supplemental sauce to go with the sandwich because I was afraid it might be dry. HA! I can confirm that no sauce was needed in the demolition of this sandwich in my mouth. As for the shells and cheese? Unbelievable. Perfectly seasoned, melt in your mouth yummy goodness. In the midst of enjoying my food I did take a break from stuffing my face to try Jules’ soup and wow. It was incredible. Absolutely incredible.
Le’sigh.
BRB, I’m drooling again.
Is it now starting to make sense why I’m reminiscing so hard on this Monday morning? Loch Bar has my heart and if you know what’s good for you, you’ll go visit if you’re in Houston so it can have your heart as well.
To returning for seconds, thirds, and fourths for as long as I shall live on Sundays & reminiscing hard af on Mondays,
Thelms
