YOU GUYS.
Today was my first day back to school! If you’ve been keeping up with the blog this summer you know that I have been in summer school for what felt like forever. Trying to keep my successful students title going and all. Gah. So naturally, being back so soon isn’t on my list of things I’m excited about. However, I have always prided myself in being able to get my head on straight, jump back into the swing of things, and achieve success.
It’s because of that, I’ve managed to maintain A’s and B’s (so far) throughout my entire college and specialty programs. I’m not even trying to toot my own horn, but toot toot — because I’ve worked my booty off to remain above the sinking ship that can sometimes be nursing school.
Y’all I’m almost to the finish line and I’m just trying to get there.
Being in this program and experiencing undergrad overall has taught me soooo much about how to be a successful student. I’m talking:
Time management.
Efficient productivity.
Priority planning… and so forth.
With that being said — I chatted with a few of my friends who are killing it in their various programs and want to share 5 Things Successful Students Do Before 9am (myself included).
#1 PREPARE FOR THE DAY AHEAD: This is what I believe and many other students like myself view as the most important part of being a successful student. I’m talking pre-packing your backpack the night before. Make a list of all the things you’ll need for the school day ahead and throw that shit in your backpack. There should be no reason a college student is showing up to school without a pen/pencil or notebook. Like c’mon. We’ve all been doing this for long enough to know better.
#2 CHECK YOUR EMAIL: College professors are notorious for sending last minute instructions for the day via email. This is why it’s so important to stay on top of your email. So much so that you’ve checked it prior to heading into class that very day. There is nothing more awkward than not knowing what’s going on… no but seriously nothing more awkward. After all, you can prepare for the day as much as you want to, BUT. If you haven’t checked your email and preparations should have been adjusted, was prepping really beneficial?
#3 GET THE DAY STARTED PROMPTLY: I personally think it’s a great idea to wake up at least an hour to hour and a half before you have to leave the house. Get that shower in, brush those teeth, pray, pack that bag… you know the essentials. This ensures a few things: 1) you won’t be rushing like a crazed maniac. 2) you’ll have the opportunity to center yourself & 3) you’re more likely to look back over what you need or are bringing to school for that day, essentially ensuring you don’t forget a thing. You’re trying to be get that successful students title going after all, so get movin’.
#4 MAKE A CHECKLIST: I live and breathe checklists as do some of my peers. I can’t function without one, if I’m being completely honest with myself and y’all. Not that I’m just such a klutz and so forgetful, but school can bring a lot of responsibilities and tasks that need accomplishing. Therefore, it’s easy to let a few things slip because you’re a bit too focused on the big fish. Checklists do a great job of ironing out everything you have to accomplish for that day. It’s there to see and constantly reference hourly in the event that you get sidetracked.
#5 GRAB A BITE TO EAT: I’m not a huge breakfast eater, but in recent months I have tried to start incorporating a little bit of something before heading off to school. If you’re like me, stick with an orange or nectarine, even a yogurt. They’re small bites that can give you the energy needed to make it through the start of class.
I hope this helps many of you babes in school have a killer semester and overall school year!
Implement these things enough and who knows? You may be sharing with your friends the 5 Things Successful Students (like yourself) Do Before 9am.
