2018: My Year In Review

Hi babes! With the new year practically around the corner, I figured what better time than now to do a yearly review! I love doing these and sharing them with you all because it allows me the opportunity to look back. Reminiscing on all the experiences, both good/bad is one of my favorite ways to prepare for the new year ahead.

So if you’re as ready as I am, follow along with me as we jump into the latest on WLT, 2018: My Year In Review.

JANUARY 2018

What a month January was! In this month I started my 3rd semester of nursing school (the topic of focus being preggers and children – which can I just say, my favorite topics EVER). I learned so much about the female body and how kick ass us babes actually are. In this month I also got to celebrate my girl Caresse’s 25th birthday. I love celebrating her because she is like an older sister to me. She has been around for major moments in my life, so to get to celebrate her major moments are a big deal to me. I even did a bit of domestic exploring in Rice Village with my OG babe Jules. If you guys follow me on Instagram, Jules is super familiar to y’all. We’ve been gal pals since the 9th grade and she is my favorite person to try new eateries with and just downright explore.

FEBRUARY 2018

Initially, Feb was kind of a slow month for me, not gonna lie — until it wasn’t. I got really deep in school mode (even having to turn down a FREE trip to Cabo because of it). However, things quickly turned around because I got to travel to Dallas and visit my favorite from college. Ashleigh to you guys, but fondly Kimmie to me (a long story to which I’ll explain some time later LOL). She had her gender reveal and we found out she was having a boy. The trip was also super memorable because she chose me to be the GODMOTHER of her baby boy. Not gonna lie you guys, I’m tearing up right now just thinking about it. Legit my favorite memory from this month hands down.

MARCH 2018

Okay, so this month was a pretty transformative month for me. I got licensed as a Certified Nurse Aide and got hired shortly after. This was a big deal for me because it aligned directly with my goal of graduating from nursing school (May 2019). It was my first step to being thrown in a hospital setting and getting firsthand experience with patients. Also further solidifying to myself that I am meant to be in the healthcare field having direct access to patients and their care.

APRIL 2018

I always joke with my friends that April is the “gather your grades and that GPA or it will gather you” month. Though in all seriousness, it’s more of a reality than a joke. As you can imagine, it caused me to dive deeper into my books than ever before. So much so, I missed Kimmie’s baby shower because of it which sucked. However, I did get to see one of my friends, Lindsey from high school exchange vows with her high school/college sweetheart. The wedding was so beautiful and so was she. Le’sigh. There’s just something about watching a friend get married that does something to you. I also got inducted into the Sigma Theta Tau nursing sorority for my exemplary academic achievements. Whoo Whoo! Your girl was doing big things and I had something to show for it!

MAY 2018

This was just a great month! School let out and I was able to travel and visit the City of Angels (Los Angeles) with friends. You guys. I was looking forward to this trip for MONTHS omg. It’s honestly what kept me motivated to finish the semester strong those last few weeks. So naturally, I will forever remember this trip because: 1) Getting drunk on a Malibu beach is something you just don’t forget EVER, but also because 2) I learned a lot about myself and others on this trip that I will keep with me forever. Getting to eat, drink, and be merry after a hellish semester… you just can’t beat that level of contentment. Like at all.

JUNE 2018

I got to be there for my sister as she graduated from high school! It was so awesome to watch her walk across the stage and grab that diploma. I mean yeah high school isn’t really super celebrated these days, but it’s an accomplishment nonetheless. To which it should be celebrated because shit. Real life and facing it begins. I also got back to grind mode because summer school started. & lastly without further ado, MY GODSON WAS BORN. The most sweetest angel baby boy to ever come to Earth graced the world with his presence. I of course couldn’t be there because I was in the thick of summer school, but FT did your girl good and I felt like I was right there the whole time.

JULY 2018

The most memorable part of this month was being included in the traditional wedding of a girl I look at as mentor when it comes to all things nursing, Priscilla. She got married to the man of her dreams and because we’re Nigerian… The wedding was no small thing. It was a weekend filled with celebrations. Us babes pictured below, were a part of her Aseobi. This is a culture phrase, which represents a coming together of women in support and solidarity for the bride.

AUGUST 2018

I explored Austin this month with my girl Jules and we had the best time. We made a day trip of it, with the goal in mind of scouting out her wedding location. She was getting married in October, so going was a great way to finalize things and get an idea of how the set up was going to be for the wedding. & because we’re us, we explored Georgetown (30 mins outside of Austin) and made the most of it. When I returned to Houston, I checked out the Lego People downtown. They were a part of a pop up art exhibit that showcased tiny legos that were built to look like actual people!!

SEPTEMBER 2018

September was a pretty good, but chill month. I got to celebrate with the celebrant; the bride to be Jules at her bridal shower. Sidenote: You guys, I went to so many weddings this year. So much so that by the 4th wedding, I began wondering what the hell I was doing with my single ass life lmao. All of which I was happy to be a witness to, don’t get me wrong lol.

NOVEMBER 2018

MY BIRTHDAY MONTH! I popped bottles figuratively and sipped on too many glasses of wine literally in the month of November. 1) Too many of my friends and family are scorpios like myself and have birthdays this month, 2) I was one month shy of being done with my second to last semester of nursing school, and 3) I really like wine LOL. I also FINALLY got to meet my sweet little Godbaby DJ (who I call Bubba Boy). He was and is the most precious wittle baby ever and I love him so much. I also got to hang out with my college bestie; his mom which was amazing.

DECEMBER 2018

What a way to end the year. I had so much fun this month. I celebrated Christmas festivities with friends and family.  I’m talking Secret Santa with the gang, Christmas lights with my girl from nursing school, and everything in between. I also wrapped up my second to last semester of nursing school strong! With the last day of this month ending tomorrow, who knows what could happen. *wink, wink*
